Rationale
The purpose of this website is to educate children about the Sacrament of Confirmation: : the symbols, rituals, liturgical structure and theology. The sacrament of Baptism has also been included for the purpose of comparing similiarities and differences of both cermonys. The web site has been developed for the use in Stage 3 Classrooms, however can also be adapted for other stages when researching the Sacraments of Confirmation or Baptism.
The use of ICT in the classroom has been shown to be beneficial for both students and teachers as it is easy to incorporate cross-curriculum learning as well as be efficient, and easily accessible (Webb, I., 2007). When ICT is used correctly, the results can mean higher quality lessons and more focused teaching that is tailored to students’ strengths and weaknesses (Webb, I., 2007). ICT also encourages independent and active learning, and gives students ownership and self-responsibility for their learning (Webb, I., 2007). Webb, 2007 also found that students found learning in a technology-enhanced setting more stimulating than in a traditional classroom.
This website also includes a Blog Page for students to be able to ask questions or share ideas from anywhere, with the intention that other students or teachers may assist in answering questions or share their own ideas.
The following outcomes from the Sydney Catholic Education Office Curriculum are met throughout:
